When Your Job Might Deliver a Cruise Discount

 Everyone loves a discount on a fabulous cruise vacation. Your professional travel advisor is your best source of information about all kinds of cruise discounts and deals – many of them are not advertised or known to the traveling public.

For example, did you know that people who do certain jobs may qualify for cruise fare discounts? Major cruise lines that offer these discounts include Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Princess, Virgin Voyages, and more.

Getting a deal on a cruise fare may not be a reason to change careers, but if you’re already doing one of the following jobs, talk with your travel advisor for more information.

·         Members of the military. If you’re currently serving or are a veteran of the armed forces, many cruise lines offer discounts to honor your service.

·         First responders. This group includes people who are often first on the scene of an emergency, such as law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians.

·         Health care professionals. Medical heroes who may qualify for cruise discounts include physicians, pharmacists, nurses, paramedics and administrative support staff.

·         Educators. Teachers at all grade levels deserve some deep relaxation when on a break from school – some cruise lines make this more affordable through educator discounts.

Many of these job-related discounts are offered on an ongoing basis. But some deals may be unique to selected cruises. A cruise line may also offer additional rewards, such as onboard credits that you can use like cash on board, alongside a fare discount.

So, how much of a discount can you expect? That varies by cruise line and voyage, too. Fare discounts of 5% to 15% are common, but discounts of 40% or 50% are not out of the question. And, sometimes, cruise lines offer free cruises to the heroes among us.

Cruise lines also vary in how their job-related discounts can be accessed. Sometimes, you just need to select a check box on one of the forms used to make your cruise reservation. In other cases, you may be asked to upload an image of your military or work ID, or to use an identity verification network like ID.me. Your professional travel advisor can help you provide the information the cruise line needs to provide the discount.
