Late Nights and Overnights in Port
If you love cruising but sometimes wish you could stay longer in port, talk with your professional travel advisor – he or she can help you find cruises with late-night departures, or even overnight stays, in selected ports.
A late-night departure means you can spend more time on
shore, with less of a rush to get back to the ship. You can enjoy the sunset,
relax over a dinner of local cuisine, and even get a taste of the port’s
nightlife. An overnight stay might even give you the chance to enjoy a morning
stroll or bike ride on shore before departure.
To find itineraries with late departures or overnights, look
to cruise lines that emphasize on-shore experiences – including, but not
limited to, those mentioned here.
Azamara Cruises’ Destination Immersion program includes late
departures and overnight stays in a variety of ports. Some itineraries feature
double-overnight stays in ports like Seville, Spain; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam;
or Hamilton, Bermuda. Azamara also offers special night shore excursions in
destinations like Mallorca, Singapore, and Málaga, Spain.
Celebrity Cruises has at least one overnight stay on about half of its itineraries. Just imagine an evening of dinner and dancing in Bridgetown, Barbados, perhaps dinner and a night swim in the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik, Iceland. Celebrity offers some double-overnight stays.
Princess Cruises’ More Ashore program includes late-night departures and overnight stays on select cruises, especially on itineraries longer than 10 nights. Passengers can enjoy extended stays in ports like Juneau, Alaska; Barcelona, Spain; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; and Quebec City, Ontario.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises also has overnight stays on about
half of its itineraries and in more than 50 destinations. These include some
off-the-usual-path locations like Walvis Bay, Namibia; Mumbai, India; and Abu
Dhabi, UAE.
Virgin Voyages includes a late departure or overnight stay
on most of its cruises. You could enjoy the sunset and the beach clubs on the
Greek Isle of Mykonos; explore the canals and cafes of Amsterdam by night; or
stay up all night at the Virgin Beach Club on Bimini in The Bahamas.
When considering cruises with late-night departures or
overnight stays, check the details carefully – for example, arriving in port at
8:00 p.m. and departing at 7:00 a.m. the following morning is technically an
overnight stay, but may not give you much time on shore. For expert assistance
