Cruise Ship Butlers

To elevate your next cruise experience, consider reserving a suite that comes with a luxurious amenity: a butler. Several cruise lines offer butler service with some higher-end suites. These include luxury lines like Silversea Cruises and Cunard Line, as well as family-friendly lines like Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises.

So, what can a cruise ship butler do for you? Here’s a quick look at how butlers make a wonderful cruise even better.

Unpacking and repacking. While you’re relaxing, enjoying a sail-away party, or exploring the ship, your butler can unpack and neatly stow your belongings. If you need laundry services, a loose button sewn on, or some creases steamed out while you’re sailing, your butler can help with that, too. Plus, he or she can repack your bags while you enjoy yourself on the last night of the cruise.

Arranging your suite. If you would like to have furniture moved, a different pillow, a board game to play, or other adjustments, just ask your butler.

Making reservations. Your butler can manage your reservations for shore excursions, dining, spa treatments, and more. And if you’re not sure which excursion, restaurant, or treatment to choose, your butler can provide recommendations.

Organizing in-suite dining. Whether it’s breakfast in bed, an afternoon snack, or a special dinner, a butler can arrange it and serve it in your suite. Or, if you’d like to host a cocktail hour for companions or new friends, a butler can provide suggestions and ensure everything goes smoothly.

You should also be aware that there are some things cruise ship butlers generally don’t do. These include working exclusively for you; butlers usually serve several suites. Butlers don’t make your bed or clean your suite, because your room steward will do that. Butlers don’t babysit children or provide personal care, but can help arrange for these services. They also don’t act as companions; they can make reservations for you, but don't attend functions with you.

And while butlers always do their very best, there are some things even they can’t accomplish, such as a ticket for a sold-out excursion or dinner in a fully booked restaurant. But, because butlers know the ship and itinerary so well, they can often suggest terrific alternatives.

The availability of butlers and the services they provide do vary between cruise lines, so ask Anita, your professional travel advisor, about any butler services on your next cruise.
